Our Mission

We believe in the future well-being of Mississippi and we will work to ensure its success. Although our personal and political perspectives may differ, we all love our state and want her to succeed. In this spirit, we extend our hand to everyone in the state to build areas of mutual respect and common vision. We identify the following four principles as part of a shared mission: racial reconciliation, economic development, educational excellence, and community empowerment. We believe that together we can set an example for these United States.

Our affiliation is structured around several specialized work areas of emphasis. They include, but are not limited to, media relations, issues of government and public policy, education, community, youths and students, social justice and faith-based partnerships. As our membership grows, so too, will our future working areas.

We are emphasizing areas of common vision and shared commitment that will be beneficial and unifying to Mississippi as a whole, to provide a network of people and organizations as a way to achieve these goals.

What is NEW MISSISSIPPI?

NEW MISSISSIPPI is a group of people working to promote racial reconciliation, social justice, educational and economic equality.

We are a very new organization, still searching out the ways in which we can best implement these goals.

It is clear that racial divisions still plague our state. We call upon all Mississippians now to work to end those divisions once and for all time.

Although our perspectives may differ, we all love Mississippi and want her to succeed. In this spirit we extend our hand to everyone in the state to build areas of mutual respect and common vision. We hope you will work together with us for racial reconciliation and for economic and community development in Mississippi. We invite you to join us in taking on these tasks.

In the wake of the terrorist attack on September 11th, a new unity and sense of purpose has brought together the diverse peoples of this country in a new-found vision of themselves as Americans, culturally varied, but all brothers and sisters. We believe that if we work together in Mississippi to solve our lingering problems of inequality, injustice and lack of education, we can cement our new-found unity, and be a beacon of light for the rest of the country in this troubled and dangerous time.
